Cable stitch is a classic textured knitting stitch that creates raised, twisted rope-like braided patterns on knit fabric. It works by crossing groups of stitches over each other during knitting to form thick, three-dimensional twisted cables, widely used in sweaters, cardigans and knitwear.
Rib stitch is a foundational stretch knitting stitch made by alternating vertical columns of knit stitches (front bump) and purl stitches (recessed groove) side by side. It creates elastic, vertical striped fabric widely used for knit cuffs, hems, collars and full garments.
Moss stitch (also called seed stitch) is a textured, bumpy flat knit stitch formed by alternating single knit and purl stitches both row-wise and column-wise. It creates a uniform tiny pebble/granular surface on both sides of the fabric, with no vertical lines like rib stitch.
Pointelle stitch is a classic openwork knitting technique that creates neat, regularly spaced tiny eyelet holes on knit fabric via transfer stitch (loop shifting). It forms delicate geometric perforated patterns, sitting between solid jersey and sheer mesh in stability and airiness.
Plain stitch, also widely called Single Jersey stitch, is the most basic, fundamental knitting stitch for all knitwear. It is formed by only knit loops on the front side of the fabric, with purl loops showing on the reverse side.
